Laurie Shapiro (b. 1990, New York) is a distinguished painter and installation artist based in NYC, renowned for her immersive artistic vision. She earned her BFA in 2012 from Carnegie Mellon University and has showcased her work internationally at prestigious venues such as the Dyer Arts Center, San Diego Museum of Art, San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, Contemporary Jewish Museum, Nashville International Airport, and SACI Florence. Shapiro’s compelling installations have been commissioned by notable entities including Otherworld, Walter Studios, and Weedmaps, with her acclaimed piece “Flowers Are Not A Crime” featured at major festivals like The Governors Ball, Life is Beautiful, and Cali Vibes. She has completed esteemed artist residencies at the American Academy in Rome, Kala Art Institute, Surel’s Place, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center, and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. Recipient of multiple grants—including the California Council for the Arts Fellowship and a Puffin Grant—her work is held in prominent public and private collections worldwide, including SACI Florence, Bilkent University, and the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. Shapiro’s art has been showcased in prominent TV segments such as WTAE and KTNV, Jhene Aiko’s 4/20 Performance with Weedmaps, and featured in leading publications including Fiber Arts Now, Artillery Magazine, and LA Weekly.
